Netflix to end multiple account sharing

Netflix to end multiple account sharing

Netflix is testing a new feature that will charge a fee to its subscribers who share their accounts with other people outside their homes.

This step was announced on Wednesday, just a few weeks after it announced a price hike. Netflix was ok with password sharing so far, but the streaming company is ready to crack it down.

Chengyi Long, director of product innovation, announced a blog about Netflix’s next move on password sharing, which will now cost users some extra money.

“We’ve always made it easy for people who live together to share their Netflix account, with features like separate profiles and multiple streams in our Standard and Premium plans. While these have been hugely popular, they have also created some confusion about when and how Netflix can be shared,” Netflix said.

“Over the next few weeks, we’ll launch and test two new features for our members in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru,” Netflix said.

Subscribers on Standard and Premium plans will be able to add up to two new sub-accounts for people they don’t live with – each with their own profile, personalized recommendations, login, and password, according to Netflix.

Netflix announced, “At a lower price: 2,380 CLP in Chile, 2.99 USD in Costa Rica, and 7.9 PEN in Peru,” soon, this will be rolled out to other countries as well.

This new update will allow Netflix members on Basic, Standard, and Premium subscription to control their accounts more by planning to enable people who share their account to transfer profile information either to a new account or an Extra Member sub-account which will include the viewing history, My List and personalized recommendations.
