RECAPP, the UAE’s first free-of-charge door-to-door recycling service, has launched recycling bins on UAE Tour Route to collect thousands of plastic bottles.
The company has been named the collection and recycling partner of the 2022 UAE Tour alongside Al Ain Water with Agthia. RECAPP will collect every plastic bottle used during the full-week event, deploying recycling bins all over the United Arab Emirates to collect and ensure the recycling of the 45,600 water bottles distributed by Al Ain Water.
RECAPP’s bins and collection service will cover the whole tour in every location, ranging from Hudayriyat Island in Abu Dhabi to Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah. This effort will help the UAE Tour and Al Ain Water to divert plastic waste away from landfills by capturing it through RECAPP’s collection service and ensuring it is properly recycled.
Jérôme Viricel, General Manager of RECAPP at Veolia Middle East, said: “We are honored to be the collection and recycling partner for the UAE Tour and to contribute to incorporating sustainability into this major sporting event. The RECAPP door-to-door collection service is currently available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and our collaboration with the UAE Tour and Al Ain Water is the first step toward our ultimate goal of bringing our recycling service to the whole of the United Arab Emirates.”
RECAPP planned the logistics of the bottle collection to avoid generating any waste in terms of equipment and to optimize the usage of each bin by reusing the same set of cardboard bins all over the United Arab Emirates to ensure a total of 170 collections.
RECAPP was initially launched in Abu Dhabi by Veolia Middle East, the benchmark company for ecological transformation. Last week, the application announced its expansion into selected areas of Dubai, namely Umm Suqeim, Jumeirah, Business Bay/Downtown, Al Barsha, MBRM City – District One – Meydan, Arabian Ranches 1, and Springs/Meadows/The Lakes.
RECAPP empowers each individual in their recycling process by offering an easy and efficient way to schedule pick-ups for plastic bottles and aluminum cans. After segregating recyclables from general waste at home, residents can download the Go RECAPP application from the App Store or Google Play and schedule a pick-up time at their convenience. RECAPP will then collect the recyclables from the user’s doorstep and recycle them completely free of charge.
Each time a user recycles, points are accumulated based on the weight of the collected recyclables, and the user can redeem the points with RECAPP’s reward partners – namely Agthia with Al Ain Water and 1971 Store, Carrefour, Upfill, and De L’Arta.
Since its launch in November 2020, RECAPP has built a community of 15,000 registered users and collected 150 tonnes of recyclables, including transparent and opaque plastic bottles and aluminum cans.
