Marriott pauses opening new hotels in Russia to condemn Ukraine Invasion

The Marriott Hotel chain said today it has decided to pause the opening of upcoming hotels and all future hotel development and investment in Russia, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Joining the steps of its peers Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. and Hyatt Hotels Corp., who have taken similar moves on Wednesday, the company will also close its corporate office in Russia.

Marriott said, “Our hotels in Russia are owned by third parties, and we continue to evaluate the ability for these hotels to remain open.”

It’s known that Moscow’s Marriot hotels, the first of which opened in 1997, include some of the best luxuries hotels in the downtown area.
