Jordan will activate its long-anticipated digital identity system in the coming days, according to Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmed Al-Hanandeh.
The initiative allows citizens to access essential government services remotely, including issuing or renewing passports, national ID cards, and other official documents—without visiting government offices.
Each Jordanian citizen enrolled in the program will also need to create a legally recognized electronic signature. This signature will be used for all digital interactions with public institutions, except in cases requiring physical presence such as land registration and critical legal matters.
The rollout will be gradual. Citizens with recurring monthly interactions with public agencies will be prioritized, ensuring smoother onboarding and service delivery for those with the most frequent needs.
Jordan’s digital identity program is part of a broader effort to modernize public services and reduce administrative burdens, aligning with regional trends in e-government and digital transformation.
