UAE’s Neobank Savii Closes Pre-Seed to Launch in Bahrain
- Savii Banking, the first female-founded neobank in the GCC, has raised a Pre-Seed fund to launch its services in Bahrain.
- Founded in 2021 by Jane Harvey and Nichola Collinson, Savii targets unbanked teens aged between 11 and 18 to educate them financially.
Savii, the female-founded Neobank for GCC unbanked segment Gen-Z, announced today the launch of their loyalty program app in Bahrain after closing their pre-seed round.
Savii Neobank put Gen-Z at the center of their product development strategy with the support of their recently appointed Youth Advisory Board, which brings the voice of the youth generation to the forefront of everything they do.
Savii’s product offering has been designed working together with Gen-Z representatives and following months of market research in the Mena region and Bahrain. Under the tagline “Designed by Teens, For Teens,” Savii brings to the market a neobank with the mission of understanding the gen-z consumer and serving their choices and lifestyle while educating them on the fundamentals of financial literacy and empowering them to become financially independent.
Savii’s first product launch consists of a loyalty app where teens can earn cash by recommending the product to their peers. The Savii app’s next update will include a prepaid debit card and digital wallet for teenagers that allows them to spend their money online and in-store.
Omaima Mosharaf, one of Savii’s Youth Advisors in Bahrain, commented: “As Gen-Z, we are by definition “digital-ites” which means we spend a lot of time on the internet and social networks, keeping up with the latest trends and insights. We have learned some finance concepts through digital banking apps that our parents are on, and we’ve adapted quite quickly to them. However, there are certain challenges in our way of fully understanding and becoming financially independent.”
Omaima also added, “there aren’t as many consumer banking options for us, and a neobank like Savii is the first to speak to our generation and understand our needs. Some of Savii’s features include having our very own debit card, sending and requesting money, keeping track of our spending, and earning discounts and rewards. They may seem like specific features, but once we all have a Savii card in our hands, we’ll be ready to become financially independent, and we’re super excited about it.”
Savii co-founders Jane Harvey and Nichola Collinson recently closed their pre-seed round where regional strategic investors participated and joined Savii’s mission to create a financial product for the unbanked and underserved strata of the regional population represented by Gen-Z.
Nichola Collinson, Savii’s co-founder, added her thoughts about financial literacy for teens in the region: “After talking to hundreds of teens across the region, we quickly realized Savii’s focus must be on giving them the financial independence they crave. Today’s youth want to take responsibility for their finances, make their own decisions about how they spend and save and, as a by-product, learn through practice, not theory.”
Nichola further added: “Gen-Z have higher expectations from the products they use than any other generation in history. However, they are yet to be given an app designed specifically with them in mind. Our Youth Advisory Board allows us to approach money management through their eyes, developing Savii as a product to enable their day-to-day lives and offering them the functionality and features they want – not the ones adults traditionally think they need.”
Commenting on the investing closing round, Jane Harvey said, “I am humbled and excited to have closed our pre-seed round. We have welcomed an exceptional group of angel investors from Bahrain and the UAE to the Savii family. We recognize that raising angel money is a privilege and not a right – and so we are grateful they have put their trust in both Nichola and me to build a next-generation banking experience for the youth in Mena.”
Savii will initially be available for teenagers aged 13 to 18 in Bahrain, and the app is now available to download in Apple Store and Google Store.

Saudi Fintech ‘Lendo’ Raises $28M in Series B Funding
Lendo, a Saudi Arabia-based shariah-compliant debt crowdfunding marketplace, has raised SAR 105 million ($28 million) in Series B funding led by Sanabil Investments, a wholly-owned company by the Public Investment Fund (“PIF”). The round saw participation from Shorooq Partners, AB Ventures and other investors.

Meta has identified over 400 malicious Android and iOS apps designed to steal Facebook login information and compromise people’s accounts.
These apps are disguised as photo editors, games, VPN services, business apps, and other utilities to trick people into downloading them. Some examples include:
- Photo editors, including those that claim to allow you to “turn yourself into a cartoon”
- VPNs claiming to boost browsing speed or grant access to blocked content or websites
- Phone utilities such as flashlight apps that claim to brighten your phone’s flashlight
- Mobile games falsely promise high-quality 3D graphics
- Health and lifestyle apps such as horoscopes and fitness trackers
- Business or ad management apps claim to provide hidden or unauthorized features not found in official apps by tech platforms.
How do these apps work?
Malicious developers create malware apps disguised as apps with fun or useful functionality — like cartoon image editors or music players — and publish them on mobile app stores.
To cover up negative reviews by people who have spotted the defunct or malicious nature of the apps, developers may publish fake reviews to trick others into downloading the malware.
When a person installs the malicious app, it may ask them to “Login With Facebook” before they can use its promised features. If they enter their credentials, the malware steals their username and password.
If the login information is stolen, attackers could gain full access to a person’s account and do things like message their friends or access private information.
How to protect Facebook accounts from malicious mobile apps?
Malware apps often have telltale signs that differentiate them from legitimate apps. Here are a few things to consider before logging into a mobile app with your Facebook account:
- Requiring social media credentials to use the app: Is the app unusable if you don’t provide your Facebook information? For example, be suspicious of a photo-editing app that needs your Facebook login and password before allowing you to use it.
- The app’s reputation: Is the app reputable? Look at its download count, ratings, and reviews, including negative ones.
- Promised features: Does the app provide the functionality it says it will, before or after logging in?
What to do if your Facebook account is compromised?
Suppose you believe you’ve downloaded a malicious app and have logged in with your social media or other online credentials. In that case, we recommend that you delete the app from your device immediately and follow the following instructions to secure your accounts:
- Reset and create new strong passwords. Never reuse your password across multiple websites.
- Enable two-factor authentication, preferably an Authenticator app, to add an extra security layer to your account.
- Turn on log-in alerts so you’ll be notified if someone is trying to access your account. Review your previous sessions to ensure you recognize which devices have access to your account.
- It’s also recommended to report malicious applications that compromise Meta accounts through the Data Abuse Bounty program.
