Jordan gave ride-hailing apps the green light to operate in the country after fulfilling some transport and safety regulations, the Prime Ministry said in a statement today.

The move, which comes after months of resistance and a crackdown on the services, was welcomed by Careem, Uber, and Easy Taxi who instantly launched social media campaigns to celebrate the news.

So how did Careem, Uber, and Easy Taxi react to the news?

Careem asked social media followers to share its celebratory post for a chance to win JOD 1,000 in-app-credit. The company said the winner will be announced on Dec. 30.

The post has exploded with 13K shares in the first five hours, so far.

The Jordanian government impounded cars and fined Uber and Careem drivers last year, accusing them of violating local laws that stipulate that only licensed cars are permitted to provide paid transportation services to the public, reported the Guardian.
