National Bank of Egypt Turns Cybersecurity Into Street Music With Essam Omar

The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) launched a public awareness campaign titled “Protect Your Personal Data” to warn citizens about online fraud. Produced by Tarek Nour Communications and featuring actor Essam Omar, the one-minute film uses humor and street-level storytelling to show how individuals can protect their banking information.

Cybersecurity in Everyday Language

Released in October 2025, the campaign presents cybersecurity through a street-performance format. In the video, Omar moves through Cairo with a loudspeaker, speaking to passersby about scams involving fake calls, deceptive links, and one-time passwords. The storyline reflects fraud patterns frequently reported by Egyptian users, translating technical advice into scenes from daily life.

The informal tone departs from conventional financial-awareness messaging, which often relies on technical explanations. By using conversational humor, the film makes digital-safety advice easier to understand and remember.

From Awareness to Storytelling

The campaign was developed by Tarek Nour Communications and filmed across several Egypt locations, including buses, boats, and neighborhood streets. The visuals draw on familiar elements of Egyptian street culture, blending rhythm, sound, and movement to communicate a public-interest message.

Featuring Essam Omar—known for his television and comedy work—the ad uses performance and timing to connect with audiences beyond traditional banking channels. The approach mirrors a growing regional trend toward using entertainment formats for social communication.

Reach and Engagement

The video has gained more than 2.6 million views on YouTube, over 30 million views on Instagram, and around 160,000 interactions and 13,000 shares on Facebook since its release. These figures reflect the campaign’s broad circulation across digital platforms and its ability to reach younger audiences online.

Industry Context

Cybersecurity has become a rising focus for Egypt’s financial sector as digital transactions increase nationwide. The Central Bank of Egypt has emphasized the importance of public education on online safety and data protection.

Ongoing Awareness Efforts

The “Protect Your Personal Data” campaign continues to appear across NBE’s official social-media channels and television placements. It contributes to a wider effort within Egypt’s banking community to address digital-security risks through communication that resonates with everyday life.
