The Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris has offered to buy an island in the Mediterranean from Italy or Greece to help the Syrian refugees.

In a phone call to Khairy Ramadan on CBC-EG, Sawiris explained his idea: “both countries have many unpopulated small islands. I will talk to Italy as I have a good relationship with the government there. If not, Greece has a financial crisis, so I think they don’t have plans to develop these islands soon. We’ll develop and make these islands livable for refugees, providing jobs and a safe place until the war is over”.
